2021 Raffle Layout

The Piedmont Railroad raffle layout is an 8’ x 4’ HO layout that depicts railroad activity in the Southern Appalachian foothills serving the town of Piedmont. Piedmont is a small rural town with two major industries – coal mining and a power plant - serving the area. The layout has been built to allow for future expansion at one end with sidings that can become extensions to a larger layout.

The Piedmont Railroad layout is a modified version of the Cumberland and Ohio layout plan that appeared in Model Railroader Magazine in 2012. The layout allows for continuous running on the main line (oval) but also has switching opportunities (10 switches) to the various industries.

The layout is wired for DCC with two locations for controller hook-up. The switches are manually operated. A 12v dc accessory bus powers lighting in many of the buildings. The layout construction includes plywood panels on the underside of the table that protects all wires and cables. The table legs can be removed as required.

All buildings, trees, scenery, cars, people are glued down for easy transportation.
